Earthquakes are caused by tectonic plates that get stuck at each others edges due to friction, and when the stress on the edge overcomes the friction, an earthquake occurs.


What are 3 most dangerous examples of your natural disaster?

  1. On January 12, 2010, there was a magnitude 7 earthquake in Haiti. This earthquake ended up killing 220,000 people, and making more than 1 million people homeless.

  2. On February 6, 2023, there was a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit both Turkey and Syria. Over 20,000 people were killed as a result of this earthquake, many more were left homeless, and thousands of buildings were destroyed.

  3. On May 12, 2008, there was a magnitude 7.9 earthquake in the Sichuan basin in China. This earthquake killed thousands of people, and left millions homeless.
